The Lake County General Health District contracts with Ohio EPA as the local air agency (LAA) for Lake and Geauga counties. Our responsibilities include conducting complaint investigations, ambient air monitoring, source inspections, and asbestos abatement inspections. Complaints about facilities could include odors, dust other air emissions, and complaints about property owners would be open burning. We are the local regulatory agency for Asbestos activities which govern the removal, handling and disposal of Asbestos as it relates to renovation and demolition of buildings.
Our ambient air monitoring networks at five locations throughout Lake and Geauga Counties. Currently, we are monitoring for the following criteria pollutants: Particulate Matter of less than 10 microns (PM10), Particulate Matter of less than 2.5 microns (PM 2.5), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), Ozone (O3) and Carbon Monoxide (CO).
We work with the Ohio Department of Health to conduct routine sampling in and around the Perry Nuclear Power Plant to ensure that the local population is not being exposed to higher than background levels of radiation.
