LAKE COUNTY GENERAL HEALTH DISTRICT CREATING NEW COMMITTEE
TO IMPROVE PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES IN LAKE COUNTY

The Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) is inviting all Lake County leaders, agencies, businesses, and stakeholders to join the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) Executive Committee.  This Committee will help direct future public health services offered in Lake County.  The first meeting for all interested parties will be held at the Lake County General Health District located at 33 Mill Street Painesville, Ohio 44077 on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  The goal of this first meeting is to begin identifying a plan, along with goals that can be measured to help Lake County become one of the healthiest counties in Ohio

The recently-completed 2011 Lake County Community Health Assessment (LCCHA) studied over 2,500 Lake County resident responses to help identify chronic disease, healthcare/public healthcare availability, recreational activities, barriers and potential options for improving Lake County’s health to lower long-term medical and health related costs.  The LCCHA is scheduled to be available by the end of September on the web at www.lcghd.org or by contacting LCGHD at 440-350-2358.

LCGHD would like to involve the community to help with the development of countywide CHIP for the 2011-2015 calendar period.  Agencies and individuals can help enact change through partnerships, funding, policy adoption, and/or program development by participating in the CHIP development process.  Deputy Health Commissioner Ron Graham will be leading the project and expressed  the need for community involvement,  “A single community health improvement plan is essential to a County’s success in moving the health status of its residents.  Without a unified plan that is developed and supported by the community partners, we risk duplicating services and wasting valuable funds and resources”.  Graham further added  that he hopes to see as many individuals as possible involved in the planning discussion.

Individuals interested in attending the meeting must first contact Karen Sarosy at 440-350-2451 or ksarosy@lcghd.org.
