Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

Lake County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

Mission:

The mission of the Lake County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to establish and maintain teams of active and retired medical professionals and public health professionals to serve the citizens of Lake County during emergencies.

What is the Lake County MRC?

The Lake County MRC is a volunteer group that brings medical professionals together in support of local public health.  Volunteers are trained and credentialed prior to the disaster to provide rapid response where needed.  A key function of the MRC is to provide members with specialized training and preparation.

Who is eligible to join the MRC?

We are looking for licensed medical professionals who can provide basic support services during emergencies, events, exercises, and drills.  This includes but is not limited to: licensed medical professionals, non-licensed volunteers with medical backgrounds, mental health professionals, public health professionals, and emergency medical personnel.  Anyone can help!

What training is needed to become an MRC volunteer?

Newly registered MRC volunteers are required to complete four hours of approved training.  Training is valid for three years and provided for volunteers.  Upon completion of the third year as a registered volunteer, the volunteer must complete additional training to keep their active status. In addition to those four hours all volunteers are responsible for taking ICS (Incident Command System) 100 and 700 introductory courses.  These courses are taken on-line.

Is there liability protection available for MRC volunteers?

Yes. Ohio Revised Code 121.404:

Provides liability protection to registered Medical Reserve Corps volunteers during local, state or federally declared emergencies, disasters, drills, exercises and trainings and exempts a registered volunteer's personal information from public disclosure.

This protection does not include the provision of any court fees, nor does it cover workman’s compensation.
