THE LAKE COUNTY SAFE COMMUNITIES COALITION ANNOUNCES PSA WINNER

The Lake County Safe Communities Coalition would like to congratulate the students of Madison High School for their winning entry in the Teen Driver Safety Prom Public Safety Announcement (PSA) Contest.  Four entries were received and the video PSA submitted by students Shawn Miller, Katie Kapostasy, Cassandra Still and Ariel Slagle was selected as the winner.

In January, the Lake County Safe Communities Coalition asked students to create PSAs that promote safe driving habits during the prom and graduation season.  Entries were required to address topics such as impaired driving, seatbelt use, speed and distracted driving.  Members of the Safe Communities Coalition judged the entries on overall impact, originality, and cinematic style.

When asked why she encouraged her students to enter the contest, District Media Director and Video Productions Teacher Emily Grau stated, “Many teenagers are so overwhelmed by the process of getting their license that they become distracted from the importance of what it means to be a responsible and safe driver.  It is an opportunity like this video contest that provides an outlet for students to really focus and share just how essential it is to be a responsible driver.  This contest challenged my students to find a way to present the information they already know about safe driving in a way that might be different than how they, or their peers, have seen it before.”

The PSA will be presented at the 8th Annual Mixers & Shakers Contest on April 28th at St. John Vianney Social Center.  The video will air at approximately 7:00pm.  It can also be viewed on Madison Productions’ YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/MadisonProductionsTV#p/u and the school’s website at http://www.madison-lake.k12.oh.us/school_home.aspx?schoolid=1.
