LAKE COUNTY GENERAL HEALTH DISTRICT
MENTOR FIRE CHIEF RICHARD HARVEY SELECTED FOR EXCLUSIVE NATIONAL MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS TRAINING
Lake County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteer and Mentor Fire Chief Richard Harvey was recently selected as one of the volunteers with the MRC Federal Deployment Cadre for a Deployment Training that will take place on June 13-17, 2011 in Frederick, Maryland. This training will allow members of the MRC Federal Deployment Cadre to work alongside Veterans Administration (VA) staff to set up and staff a Federal Medical Station (FMS) and to use the Federal Medical Record (EMR) system.
The Office of Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (OCVMRC) at the national level is charged with training and rostering volunteers for federal deployment. During an actual disaster or public health emergency, the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response (ASPR) would handle the deployment of willing, able, and approved MRC members. ASPR handles travel orders, mission arrangements, and other activities directly related to federal deployment.
MRC Federal Deployment Cadre volunteers are selected from all of the United States by OCVMRC with the approval and support of their individual unit coordinators. These federal trainings take place annually. In Lake County, the MRC unit is housed within the Lake County General Health District and consists of licensed medical professionals who volunteer to be trained and to prepare for local emergencies and disasters. Chief Richard Harvey was initially selected and trained as a volunteer with MRC Federal Deployment Cadre last summer. Volunteers of the MRC Federal Deployment Cadre are selected through a competitive application process. For more information on the MRC Federal Deployment Cadre, please visit http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov/MRCDeployment/Fall2008TrainingVideo.
