LAKE COUNTY GENERAL HEALTH DISTRICT

LAUNCHES NEW INTERACTIVE WEBSITE

Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) is launching a new website on June 21, 2011.  The previous website had not been updated since 2005.  With the general goal of the public health education and the welfare of the all residents of Lake County and beyond, the website was designed to be user friendly, as well as more attractive to the computer-savvy resident with an emphasis on interactive and social media. The site is more robust in the type of information LCGHD can present when compared to the previous site.

According to a public panel’s feedback that included some LCGHD staff, the new website, which can be accessed at www.lcghd.org, is much more attractive and refined.  The site was designed with the goal that internet users “click” no more than three times in order to get to the information they need quickly.  The site also has the following features:

  • Descriptive buttons, A-Z and Google indices make the site easier to navigate.
  • An image rotator at the top of the site will change often to highlight hot public health topics and deliver immediate information.
  • The capability for instructional video and online forms, such as for complaint and animal bite reporting, will save the public time in locating LCGHD forms and applications.
  • The site allows LCGHD to pull data and live content from other sites, such as the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Birth and Death Certificates can be obtained online via credit card transaction.  This includes birth certificates for everyone born anywhere in the State of Ohio.
  • Links to Facebook and Twitter sites associated with LCGHD have been added for users who want up-to-the-moment public health news.
  • Spanish language translation of the site is available with the click of a button.
  • The ability to track web site visits by individual page will help LCGHD know what topics are of greatest interest to the public and topics we can improve in promoting.
  • A Special Alerts and Advisories section will notify residents of current public health emergencies, such as Norovirus outbreaks and flood information.  A Recalls section will provide links to different government agencies that provide information on the latest product recalls.
  • Physicians and hospitals will have secure site access for interaction during a public health emergency.

Looking toward the future, LCGHD will seek to continually improve the web site in order to bring the residents of Lake County the best in health preventive services and information.  New educational features, such as streaming video, a newsletter and periodic “customer” service surveys will be added in order to continually improve and enhance health services to the residents of Lake County.
