LAKE COUNTY CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECK UP

Lake County Certified Child Passenger Technicians are hosting a Child Safety Seat Check Up on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road, Kirtland, Ohio 44094.

In March 2011, both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration issued new recommendations for child safety seat use. Highlights included keeping children in a rear-facing position as long as the seat will allow and until at least two years of age, as well as the use of booster seats until the seat belt fits correctly across the child’s shoulder and upper thigh, which is often when the child is eight to 12 years of age.

During the Child Safety Seat Check Up, families will be able to have their child safety seats inspected by local Certified Technicians who have completed a four-day training course that combines classroom instruction and hands-on work with various child safety seats and vehicles. Representatives from Lake County General Health District, Lake Metroparks Ranger Department, Leroy Township Fire Department, Mentor Police Department and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital will be on hand to provide instruction on proper installation, check for seat recall information and answer questions about the new recommendations.

Inspections are free of charge, but appointments are required. To make an appointment or for more information, please contact Christine Margalis at the Lake County General Health District at 440-350-2879.
