The Lake County Healthy Lifestyle Initiative was created in response to the 2010 Lake County Community Health Assessment where adult obesity and childhood obesity were the 1st and 3rd concerns of Lake County residents.
As the primary agency for community health services, we understand it is our obligation to provide health and wellness interventions. Through education, awareness, and practice, we work to engage the community in healthy lifestyles that can be maintained through all stages of life.
Our goal is to increase the number of families who receive appropriate care to ensure high physical activity levels, proper nutrition habits, a healthy BMI and take on a proactive role in staying well.
Personalized Service
Children and families will be brought into the Health District, by referral or walk-in, their needs will be assessed, and risk factors for obesity will be addressed.
Families will receive educational material that includes information about nutrient dense foods, tips for a healthy grocery cart, exercise schedules and routines, and ways to adopt a proactive viewpoint on disease prevention.
Healthy Choices for Healthy Children Act
The Lake County Healthy Lifestyle Initiative will naturally follow the implementation of Ohio Senate Bill 210 in the local school districts. Ohio Senate Bill 210 was implemented to combat childhood obesity. The bill looks to increase physical activity and ensure access to healthy meals and beverages while at school. This family wellness system will help the school districts keep their BMI percentiles and activity occurrences at preferred levels.
