DON’T GET THE SEASONAL FLU – GET VACCINATED!
Lake County General Health District recommends a yearly flu vaccination as the first and most important step in preventing the sickness that can come from getting the flu. This year, the vaccination recommendations include Influenza High Dose vaccine as a choice for people 65 years of age and older. The ability of a traditional flu shot to protect against the flu is not as good as a person ages. The Influenza High Dose vaccine was made specifically for people 65 years of age and older and has a higher amount of the active ingredient found in influenza vaccines to protect you better from the flu.
For adults aged 18-64 years, the Lake County General Health District will also be giving traditional influenza vaccine. The Health District encourages all adults to make sure they help protect themselves against seasonal flu this year by getting vaccinated.
The Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) will be administering Flu shots for the 2011-2012 Flu season. LCGHD is offering two types of flu vaccine:
1. High Dose Flu – designed specifically for individuals 65 years of age and older.
2. Seasonal Flu – for individuals 18 through 64 years of age.
As in the past, the Lake County General Health District will accept Medicare Part B and some Medicare Part C (Advantage Plans i.e. Humana & Aetna) for those who qualify. Otherwise, the cost of the Flu vaccine is $22.00.
What adults (18 years of age and older) need to know:
- Check the Flu schedule to see the Flu site location near you.
- Call and sign-up for your Flu shot at the Flu Clinic site you wish to attend.
