SIXTH ANNUAL NORTHCOAST MOTORCYCLE SAFETY RIDE
The Lake County Safe Communities Coalition is pleased to announce that the Sixth Annual Northcoast Motorcycle Safety Ride will take place on June 11, 2011. This ride is collaboration of local Safe Communities Coalitions in Lake, Ashtabula, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Motorcycle Ohio and University Hospitals.
This year, the ride will feature two starting locations: Lakeside High School, 6600 Sanborn Road in Ashtabula and Harley-Davidson Bike Town, 5700 Interstate Boulevard in Austintown. Sign-in begins at 9:30 a.m. with pullout at 11:00 a.m. Both starting groups will meet at Mosquito Lake State Park in Cortland for a halftime stop and then all riders will return to Lakeside High School for food, safety activities and door prizes. The ride will be escorted by Ohio State Troopers and local law enforcement officers. Cost for the ride is $10.00 per bike and $5.00 for non-riders.
The Northcoast Motorcycle Safety Ride began in 2005 in response to the large number of motorcycle-related deaths that occurred in Ashtabula County. The ride has since grown and will travel through Lake, Ashtabula, Geauga, Trumbull and Mahoning Counties. Since 2007, nine motorcyclists have lost their lives on Lake County’s roads and many others have faced serious injury. A goal of the Lake County Safe Communities Coalition is to reduce the incidence of motorcycle fatalities both through rider education and by helping other drivers become more aware of motorcyclists on the road.
